Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at about 4 km to the northeast of the Kunkelaqi Village, Ahaqi County, Xinjiang. It was named by the Institute of Geology under the Xinjiang Geological Bureau in 1987.


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Composed mainly of black and grey-black limestone, bioclastic limestone, algal limestone and micritic algal limestone, intercalated with a small amount of marl and clayey limestone; with a thickness of 1290 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Bijingtawu Fm of the Carboniferous System

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Kak Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the Musiduk region, with a remarkable decreasing in thickness from west to east, and with no Triticites zone having been found in the Tigchatag area about 9 km to the right north of the Subash Village.

Fossils

Yields Fusulinids represented by the Pseudoschwagerina subzone, the Pseudofusulina robusta-Robustoschwagerina subzone and the Sphaeroschwagerina fouxa-Paraschwagerina elongate subzone; Brachiopods represented by Linoproductus-Chaoiella assemblage, the Schizophoria-Brachythyrina assemblage, the Neospirifer-Enteletes assemblage and the Eliva-Enteletes assemblage; and Corals represented by Kepingophyllum, etc.
